Esie Soap Stones date back to 16th century.
These artefacts were discovered in Igbomina in Kwara State, Nigeria.
They consist of carved figures of men and women, mostly sitting on stools with circular tops and bottoms joined by cylindrical columns. There are some kneeling figures of both sexes, and most of them wear elaborate coiffures. They all have facial marks of three horizontal straight lines between the eye and the ear. The majority of them wear necklaces and bracelets.
